j'ai soumis ce post en Anglais sur un autre forum, et comme il est long et qu'il est tard, j'ai pas la force de le traduire

So at long last a digital version of Bunny Wailer's masterpiece "Rock 'N' Groove" is available on legal platforms

I rushed to buy it on Qobuz and am quite satisfied with the sound. However, I seem to recall a few songs were longer in the original album

Here are the durations for the "remasterered" version

Rock and Groove (Remastered) 3 minutes 19 seconds
Another Dance (Remastered) 7 minutes 23 seconds
Dance Rock (Remastered) 2 minutes 50 seconds
Cool Runnings (Remastered) 3 minutes 37 seconds
Rootsman Skanking (Remastered) 6 minutes 31 seconds
Jammins (Remastered) 5 minutes 36 seconds
Ballroom Floor (Remastered) 3 minutes 0 seconds

I had the album cleaned up and restored a few years ago and this is why I have

Rock And Groove 6 minutes 4 seconds
Another Dance 7 minutes 33 seconds
Dance Rock 5 minutes 57 seconds
Cool Runnings 4 minutes 52 seconds
Roots Man Skanking 6 minutes 33 seconds
Jammins 5 minutes 45 seconds
Ballroom Floor 5 minutes 33 seconds

Now I'm not sure about my versions because I had asked the person who did this job for me to also use disco 45's when available and these durations might be longer as a result, but still, I'm pretty sure the LP features an extended version of Rock & Groove. I was smoking too much weed back then and dont remember what I did... (dont do drugs, kids!) Also Im traveling at the moment and have no way of checking on the LP itself. And of course, they never wrote the songs durations on the album cover.

It would be a shame if the good people in charge of the remaster had cut down the duration of the tracks because the Roots Radics are magnificent on this album and deserve to be featured without Bunny's vocals

I would be grateful if someone could check if the original LP had extended versions of:

===> Rock & Groove, Dance Rock, Cool Runnings and Ballroom Floor

... and letting us know what their durations are would be icing on the cake!

Apart from this, I ahvent gone through the entire thing yet, but from what I've heard so far, I'm reasonably happy with the sound, which is likely a needle drop and not from tapes, but I could be wrong. There are no cracks or pops or horrible surface noises. The remastered version sounds a wee bit more digital, less analog than mine, but it's hard to tell, because when my needledrop was made, I didnt have the files remastered afterwards and the wave files are very different as a result (mine are small, the new version are big)

Too bad the mastering engineer didnt do a high resolution edition with 96/24 audio files with a higher bit rate than 1,411 (CD quality). I had mine done in 96/24 and 2,800 bit. Mine is very slightly faster than the new remaster, hardly noticeable on the first couple of minutes (a 10th of a second approximately) and obviously diverging as the songs progress. I would not know whose version is closest to the original, quite frankly, my slightly faster or the new slightly slower.

If someone more technically versed than me wants to do a more detailed comparison, I would be happy to send the audio files of the two albums so they can share their thoughts, just DM me

J'ai ce LP au garage, si personne ne l'a sous la main, je ferai une expédition pour toi.

Yes mais je le garde. On a pas mal dansé dessus avec ma damselle à nos débuts, c'est sentimental, on remue la poussière parfois avec :)
